This scholarship is offered by the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences. The purpose of this scholarship is to attract Australian and New Zealand students of high calibre to pursue PhD research in the Humanities or Social Sciences.

The Gowrie Bursary derives from a fund that was set up in 1943 to maintain research scholarships in perpetual memory of those Australian men and women who gave their lives for their country in the Second World War.
The bursary is targeted at those who are serving or have served in the Australian Armed Forces and their lineal descendants, particularly those for whom its relatively small monetary value will make a real difference.
A Supplementary scholarship may be awarded to a student to top up a HDR base stipend scholarship offered by the ANU to assist with living costs or research expenses.
ANU Master of Philosophy Scholarships are funded by individual academic Colleges. It is expected that recipients will study on a full-time basis. However, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship can be awarded for part-time study. International scholars must undertake study on a full-time basis.
ANU Colleges may offer Fee Remission Merit Scholarships to eligible International students.
A number of ANU Tuition Scholarships are funded and awarded by individual Colleges and determined as part of the application process. This scholarship covers international student tuition fees.
